What is Medicare Supplement Insurance?

Medicare Supplement or Medigap

There is no difference between Medigap and Medicare Supplement Insurance. They are simply two different terms for the same type of insurance coverage. Please note that Medicare Supplement is NOT the same as Medicare Advantage. They are two separate insurance products.

Coverage for costs not paid by Medicare

A Medicare Supplement Insurance policy (also called a Medigap plan) can help pay some of the health care costs and services that Original Medicare does not cover, such as copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. Medicare will pay its share of the Medicare-approved amount for covered health costs. Then your Medicare Supplement Insurance policy will pay its share.

Medicare Supplement plans do not include prescription drug coverage or dental coverage, but you may choose to add those plans separately.
