Which Health Insurance subsidies will you receive in 2023?

Generally, subsidies, or premium tax credits, are based on three factors: your income, the list price of the benchmark plan, and the amount you have to pay toward your health insurance.

Subsidies vary depending on the benchmark plan and what you are expected to contribute.

Since you usually apply for coverage before the new year begins, you need to estimate how much you'll make.

Before coverage begins, you should also compare the total plan premium with your household income.

*Under the Affordable Care Act, all Individual health plans have a maximum out-of-pocket expense of $6,350.

Catastrophic Coverage

Available to any individual under age 30, this coverage is guaranteed issue, qualifies as “minimal essential coverage” and is not subject to a tax penalty.

Temporary Medical Coverage

With short-term policies, healthy applicants can secure immediate individual and family coverage, with plans that can kick in as early as the next day.

Affordable Care Act (ACA)

Health reform law sometimes referred to as "Obamacare". To be recognized by the Affordable Care Act as a qualified health plan, individual medical plans must cover ten essential health benefits ("Essential Health Benefits"). In certain states, Routt Insurance, LLC may not be able to offer ACA-compliant health insurance. To see all QHP options available in your state, go to the Health Insurance Marketplace website at www.HealthCare.gov. The Marketplace determines the eligibility requirements for premium tax credits, which are not guaranteed.

Short Term Medical (STM)

It is not considered minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act (also known as "Obamacare") or comprehensive medical coverage. Some Essential Health Benefits may not be covered by STM insurance. It is important to read the plan carefully before enrolling. Most plans do not cover preexisting conditions, and there may be lifetime and/or annual dollar limits on health benefits. You may have to wait until an open enrollment period to get new health insurance coverage if your coverage expires or you lose eligibility.

Fixed Indemnity/Limited Indemnity Plans

An indemnity plan supplements health insurance. They do not take the place of health insurance or of the minimum essential coverage (MEC) mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Generally, these plans do not cover preexisting conditions (health conditions that already exist at the time of application), and they only pay up to the fixed benefit amounts for covered services. Payments from these plans may affect your Medicaid eligibility or coverage if you are on (or eligible for) Medicaid. You can find out more information from your Medicaid agency.
